BRAIDWOOD & VILLAGES TOURISM. Braidwood is one of the few towns in Australia to be declared an entire heritage area. On the Federal Highway half way between Canberra and Bateman's Bay, Braidwood is also the centre of Tallaganda Shire with interesting little vilages steeped in the history of the gold rush era. The Tourist Information Centre has a comprehensive range of brochures, maps, tour guides, and publications about the area, plus souvenirs for your visit. Bungendore village has many special attractions including world class, cool climate wineries and vineyards, a diverse array of galleries specialising in fine art, leather ware, crafts and photographs. The internationally acclaimed Bungendore Wood Works Gallery is the recipient of numerous national and regional tourism awards and should not be missed. Enjoy the friendliness of a country community only 30 minutes from our National Capital. The Centre has visitor information on Bungendore, Captains Flat, Hoskinstown, Sutton and Tarago. Open: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday -- 9:30am to 4:30pm. Tuesday and Wednesday -- By appointment. (Closed New Year's Day, Good Friday, Anzac Day, Melbourne Cup Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. From 27 December to 31 January inclusive each year the Centre will be closed every Tuesday and Wednesday.)

SHOPPING HOURS
Shops are normally open from 9.00 to 5.00 Monday to Friday, and 9.00 to 1.00 Saturday.
The towns and villages of the Southern Tablelands are quite small, Goulburn, Yass and Young being the major shopping centres.
In Braidwood, Goulburn, Yass, and Young shops of interest to tourists, are open 7 days a week.
In most towns and larger villages there will be cafes and take-away food bars open 7 days. Most restaurants open for both lunch and dinner; some open for dinner only. Many close on Monday evenings. Dining rooms in clubs and hotels are usually open most days and nights.
Supermarkets in the major towns (Goulburn, Yass, Young) are open 7 days a week from 8 or so in the morning to late at night (up to 9.00). Some open later and close earlier on Sundays.
In other towns smaller supermarkets and convenience stores are open Monday to Saturday.

Service Stations keep normal business hours.
Larger outlets open for extended hours, 7 days. Service Stations can be found in most towns (open Monday to Saturday.)
24 hour roadhouses can be found on the Freeway at Yass and Marulan, and in Goulburn (at the Big Merino).

BANKING HOURS
These are open only Mon-Thu: 9.30 to 4.00 and 9.00 to 5.00 Friday. Closed weekends. Some smaller villages have agencies which open one or two days a week.
Post offices also have Giropost - banking facilities available for some banks and payments to other types of accounts.
ATMs (automatic teller machines) are located in larger towns. (Not all cards are accepted by all ATMs.)
EFTPOS facilities are available in all supermarkets, service stations, liquor stores, hotels and clubs, and many shops in larger towns. Most accept major foreign credit cards (but check before you leave home!)
Currency Exchange and Traveller's Cheques are normally only negotiable at banks or major resorts. Few smaller businesses have the facility to exchange these. The nearest American Express office is in Canberra.
A nominal fee applies to exchange transactions.

Major hospitals are to be found in Braidwood, Crookwell, Goulburn, Yass and Canberra.
