VICTORIAN RESIDENCE - 1883 to Present.

In 1883 Belcher closed the school but retained Garroorigang as his residence.

The furnishings remain intact and unchanged making the home today a truly unique example of a Victorian gentleman's residence.

The 1850's barouche carriage, imported from England and used by Belcher and his family, is still in running condition.

The magnificently furnished drawing room, including its original wallpaper, is probably unique in Australia today while the original library, kitchen and bedrooms offer a fascinating picture of life in the home throughout its history.

Garroorigang remains a lived in home. It contains a remarkable collection of original antique furniture still in daily use as well as a fascinating accumulation of Australiana and items of historical interest representing its life over 150 years.

It is a private home where visitors can experience living history and gain insights into the life and times of the colonial era from a guided tour by a collateral descendant of Explorer Hamilton Hume who first explored the Goulburn area in 1817 before his epic journey overland journey from Sydney to Westernport Victoria in 1824, commemorated today by the route of the Hume Highway.
