Pointscore event of the Siberian Husky Club NSW Inc - sled dog racing.
Sled dogs (more popularly known as huskies) are the main traditional method of transport for the Inuit of northern Canada, and the Eskimos of the Arctic. Australian scientists and explorers have also traditionally used them in the Antarctic.
Although there is no snow, the races here are adapted for local conditions, and sled dog fanciers pit their skills - and those of their dogs - on cross country racing over two days, from 7.00am to 10.30am.
Families and children welcome - but please leave pets at home.

IRISH WOOL FEST, BOOROWA
The Running of the Sheep has been likened to the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona. This is the Australian version where full wool merino sheep rampage down the main street of Boorowa in NSW leading the colourful street parade.
Other events in this free country street festival include the Blessing of the Fleece, a spiritual thanksgiving of the fine wool of the district, Irish dancers, Irish bands and singers, The Jitterbugs, a high energy, interactive, educational non stop musical extravaganza and a Grower's Market.
The National Flyball team (featuring hurdling dogs) have entered into the spirit by making the Irish Woolfest a major competition day. The Irish Woolfest won a commendation in the Canberra and Capital Region 2006 Tourism Awards and was recently featured on Getaway.

BRAIDWOOD QUILT EVENT
In November each year, the historic town of Braidwood becomes a mecca for quilters and tourists alike as it hosts this year the 12th Quilt Event and the famous 'Airing of the Quilts' on the Saturday.
In magnificent spring weather the main street is aglow with colour as quality quilts are strung up on the first floor verandahs with a backdrop of intricate and ornate iron work and wood.
Quilts also decorate shop windows, restaurants and cafes, and are exhibited Indoors. Plus indoor exhibition Saturday & Sunday at the National Theatre. Some 500 quilts are usually displayed.
A Fringe Festival will offer open artist's studios, quilt, textile and nostalgic exhibitions in the churches, open gardens sponsored by the Australian Open Garden Scheme and the Ryrie Park markets.

The pavilion will house a diverse range of exhibits, from flowers to photography, handicrafts and needlework, preserves, home brews and vegetable and farm produce. 6 MAR: CROOKWELL COUNTRY FAIR
The Crookwell Country Fair is a highlight of Crookwell's calendar. It is a fabulous event with street stalls, a grand parade, music and lots of activities. Thousands of locals and visitors mingle with one aim in mind - to relax and have fun.
The main street of Crookwell turns into a market and entertainment space. Live music, dancers, marching girls, clowns and stilt walkers take centre stage, while children with balloons and painted faces chase each other through the crowds, Grand Parade and helicopter joy rides.

TWO FIRES FESTIVAL
The Two Fires Festival celebrates the two fires of the life of poet Judith Wright - Arts and Activism. Judith lived in Braidwood for the last thirty years of her life.
Two Fires is a cultural festival that provides a gathering place for robust discussion of the environment, the arts, poetry and literature, performance, indigenous culture and a film festival showing four indigenous short films, and provides entertainment to suit everyone. Of particular interest will be exploration of the new concept of Transition Towns in an informative forum and workshop.
This year's festival will be attended by Professor Mick Dodson, Australian of the Year, and feature performers for the Saturday night concert, the entertainment highlight of the festival, will be Archie Roach and Ruby Hunter, together with members of their band.

17 APR: BUNDANOON IS BRIGADOON
For one day every year the mythical village of Brigadoon rises from the mists, and Bundanoon in the Southern Highlands become Brigadoon - one of the world's largest Highland Gatherings.
Hundreds of pipers and drummers, a street parade, massed bands, Highland Games (toss the caber!), and hundreds of stalls, displays and activities.
Bundanoon is Brigadoon normally attracts over 20,000 visitors from around Australia, and is one of the major events of the Southern Highlands.
Not to be missed! Whether you are of Scots ancestry, or looking for one of the most enjoyable and interesting of days out with the family, a trip to Brigadoon (perhaps on the steam train) will be a day to remember.

BINDA PICNIC RACES
Historic annual country picnic races - one of the most important in NSW.
The first race meeting was held on the Binda Property, "Funny Hill", owned by the Carr family, in 1848 and the track is the oldest country racetrack in Australia.
Meeting were held annually until World War 1, and then suspended again when World War 2 began. The races resumed in 1943, the year the war finished, and meetings have been held annually since then.
The present day "Binda Picnics" as they are popularly known, attract a crowd of around 1500 people and the day is a social occassion for all racegoers.
Lunch is available and a bar operates on the day. Eight bookmakers cover the local races only and there is no TAB on course. Buses run from Crookwell to the races and then return to Crookwell after the last race.

APPLE DAY - TALLONG
The Tallong Community Focus Group, is organising a Family & Friends Fun Day and celebrations to recognise the heritage of Tallong. Apples will be the theme of the day and any profits will be distributed to the local community.
Lots of street market stalls, including local produce stalls with apples and a variety of products for sale (new stall holders are welcome); displays of classic cars and steam engines; food and refreshments; history exhibition; novelty games; chocolate wheel; photographic and apple peeling competitions for all ages; street theatre; live music; quilt and craft displays; displays by ambulance and rural fire brigade and an 'APPLE' bake-off competition (pies, cakes, tarts, chutneys, etc.).
